Holidays are the perfect time to review vocabulary and teach some new words in a familiar context. Here are some ideas for Chanukah: Colors - put candles in the menorah, asking each child which color they would like to put in. Then remove one candle at a time and ask what color is missing. Numbers - Count the candles in the menorah. Spin dreidels and count how many seconds each child spins theirs. Verbs - Light the candles, the candles are lit. Spin the dreidel and watch it spin. How did they find the pot of oil they found?
Vocabulary - donut, oil, fry, pot of oil, candle, box of candles, freedom, light. For younger children bring in some objects and play "This is a..." (explanation on my website) or "What's missing". For older children make a word search or crossword puzzle.
Songs - Many songs and video clips for all ages can by found on the internet. Find two more on the CD "English is Fun All Year Long".
