Categories – 2-6th grade
  1. Begin chant – Who can name some _______ (colors, animals, things at school, etc.)
  2. Each child in turn names an object that fits the description.
Hot-cold – K-3rd grade
  1. One child leaves the room (two children if the group is big).
  2. Another child (or two children) hides an object.
  3. Call child back to search for the object.
  4. Class gives clues – freezing (farthest), cold, warm, hot and boiling (closest).
  5. To make the game more challenging for older children, don't tell the child who leaves the room which object is being hidden.
 
This is a - 1st-4th grade
  1. Teacher starts – present object to one child (A) and say "This is a _______".
  2. A asks "A What?"
  3. Teacher repeats name of object.
  4. A says to 2nd child (B) "This is a _______".
  5. B asks A "A what?", A again asks teacher, teacher repeats name to A, A to B.
  6. Continue in turn until last child says to teacher "This is a _______".
  7. If using plural objects, simply ask "What" (explain the difference to the children).
 
Who is wearing – K-4th grade (use fewer colors for younger children)
  1. Teacher asks "Who is wearing (color)?" and shows color card to children (see attached document).
  2. Any child wearing the color named gets up and moves to another chair.
  3. After a few rounds the teacher sits in one of the chairs and one child is left standing. This child then asks "Who is wearing (color)?". 
 
Who stole the cookies – variation – 2nd – 5th grade
  1. All children close their eyes and put their hands behind their backs.
  2. Teacher hands out objects being taught (fruit, school objects, etc.). Please note – use objects that children can identify by touch. It isn't necessary for every child to be given an object.
  3. Children open their eyes but hands remain behind their backs, even if they're empty.
  4. Begin with an appropriate question, i.e. "Who picked the (fruit) from the tree?", "Who stole the (object) from the bag?". Continue "(name) picked the (fruit), stole the (object), etc." as in the original game ("Who, me?" "Yes, you!" "Couldn't be!" "Then who".
  5. Each round continues until someone guesses which child is holding the object mentioned.

Ball Game - 1st - 6th grade

  1. One person throws a ball and asks a question. Questions vary according to the level of the students and the subject being taught.
  2. Possible questions - Who is wearing (color)(clothing)? Who has (number) brothers/sisters? Who has a (pet or object)? Who is (age) years old? Who likes/doesn't like? Whose mother/father is a (profession)?
  3. Anyone who can answer "yes" to the question tries to catch the ball.
  4. Whoever catches the ball answers the question (I am wearing ____, I have ____, etc.), asks another question and throws the ball.
Duck-Duck-Goose – variation 1 – K-2nd grade
1.      Chilren sit in a circle on the floor.
2.      Teacher or child walks around the circle, taps each child on the head and says "sit".
3.      Tap one child and give a command – walk, run, jump, march, etc. (use more commands for older children or as the game is learned).
4.      Chosen child chases the "tapper" in the manner mentioned.
 
 
Duck-Duck-Goose – variation 2 – K-2nd grade
1.      Chilren sit in a circle on the floor.
2.      Before beginning, teacher or child says a number or letter of their choice.
3.      Walk around the circle, and count or say the alphabet (as appropriate) while tapping heads.
4.      When the number or letter chosen is reached, that child chases the "tapper".
5.      If children know the number or alphabet well, have them close their eyes.
